FAQ
Good questions.
The real thing: a password reset from your staging environment, a campaign from your ESP as a test send, or the message you are unsure about. The score is about the sending setup and the message as it leaves — a “hello” from your own mailbox tells you about your mailbox, not about your app.
Every message starts at 100. Each check that fails or warns takes points off, weighted by how much mailbox providers care: a failed DKIM costs more than a missing List-Unsubscribe. SpamAssassin runs on the full raw message and its own score is reported separately, alongside the rules that fired.
Passing authentication is the goal. A 9 with one content warning will land; a 6 with a DKIM failure will not. Read the red lines first, then the orange ones.
It is stored just long enough to score and show it to you, then deleted — 30 minutes at most. It is never forwarded, replied to, or used for anything else.
